Genuine Caterpillar electric fuel transfer pump, part number 446-5409 (Perkins equivalent T417445), a 24 volt DC lift pump supplied on its aluminium manifold block and bracket — the pump label reads 4465409 / 24V / 14M17A, the body is moulded 14M16A USA and the flow arrow is cast into the housing (see photos). The electric transfer pump draws fuel from the tank and feeds it through the filters to the high-pressure pump at low pressure, and primes the system after a filter change or a run-dry, so it is the part replaced when the engine is hard to start, loses power under load or will not prime, or when the pump runs noisily or not at all.
