Pair of genuine Caterpillar 174-5517 flexible marine engine mounts, made for Cat by Barry Controls as part 27681-5 — each cast aluminium base carries the CAT 174-5517 / Barry Controls 27681-5 label, and the Cat box label reads 174-5517, quantity 2, Barry P/N 27681-5/01, September 2007, shipped to Caterpillar's Griffin logistics centre (see photos). Resilient mounts carry the engine on the bed or stringers and isolate its vibration and noise from the hull; worn, cracked or oil-softened rubber lets the engine move, disturbs shaft alignment and passes vibration into the boat, so mounts are a routine renewal at repower or major overhaul. Each mount has twin rubber isolators and two threaded levelling studs with adjusting nut, jam nut, washers and top nut, so engine height and alignment are set without shims. Cat's parts catalogue lists 174-5517 (Flexible Engine Mount) for the C18, 3412E, C30 and C32 marine engines and the C18 genset, paired with the companion 174-5516 mount, two of each per engine; the 174-5516 mounts are not included. It is not the mount for the 3196, C7, C9 or C12, nor the C18's other 241-3779 arrangement.
