Genuine Caterpillar heat exchanger for the CAT 3508 diesel engine, brand new and never installed. On a marine or keel-cooled installation the heat exchanger is the shell-and-tube vessel that transfers heat from the engine's closed jacket-water circuit into raw seawater drawn through by the raw-water pump, so the engine runs on treated coolant rather than corrosive seawater — it is what gets replaced when tubes corrode, fur up or start leaking coolant into the raw-water side. This is an OEM unit with no core exchange required, and it carries its pressure-vessel manufacturer's data plate (see photos). Fits Caterpillar 3508 engines, which are widely used in marine propulsion, industrial generator sets, oilfield and drilling equipment and heavy plant.
